halloweening pt. 2

playing catch up as usual, but i figured i would post some cute photos from halloween itself! i dressed as myself, of course, and hannah had a witchy goth vibe going. we were pretty relaxed with our plans, but we heard that disney characters met at the disney resorts dressed in costumes, so we were determined to meet some of them! later, we found out that they only had two or three sets since they were bouncing around so much, so catching them was kind of difficult. also, i locked my keys in the car and had to call AAA so that also threw a wrench in our plans. but forget about that! look at this cool picture of us on magic kingdom's last day of halloween! which is halloween!

halloweening pt. 1

i'm going to go ahead and skip the rest of august-september and jump straight to halloween season since i left this blog as a draft for too long and now it's christmastime. this year as a lark, hannah and i applied to work at halloween horror nights, universal's halloween event. it is nothing like mickey's not so scary, namely because it is terrifying. haunted houses, scare zones full of all kinds of weirdos popping out at you, the works. basically my worst nightmare, but i thought it would be fun to work there.

homosassa springs birthday surprise!

the weekend before my birthday, hannah took me on an amazing surprise trip to go see and swim with manatees. we went to what i like to call ""real florida,"" where the palm trees aren't strategically planted and your hands don't get clammy just from going outside.

long ago, in a park far, far away

now, i'm not sure if any of you know this, but the reason i skedaddled out of new york so quickly after school ending was star wars weekends. you might remember me talking about them last year, but here's a little refresher: for the last two weekends in may and the first two weekends and june, hollywood studios is overrun with star wars maniacs. disney brings out lots of star wars characters and there are lots of cool events and meet and greets with actual celebrities (not just chewbacca) and my favorite part: merchandise!

you may be saying to yourself "but kaylyn! do you even care about star wars? i don't think you've ever mentioned star wars in your life! do you know when the star wars began? who is the most famous general of the first star war? which battle won the war for the patriots?" and you're right! i'm not really a star wars fanatic. i watched the movies a lot when i was younger and i'm pretty sure i dressed up as queen amidala for halloween once but i don't really geek out over it like i do for a lot of other franchises. but i love space stuff, and i love people, so for me, star wars weekends is just so much fun! all of the fans get really into it and the energy in the park is palpable, especially for the closing event every night, the hyperspace hoopla. this year's event was especially special because disney just acquired lucasfilm, so everyone was on edge to see how that would change it.

so without further ado, i give you: star wars weekends!!!

my first weekend was just hannah and i, but we ran into friends all over the park! everyone shows up for star wars. i got into the spirit of things by dressing up as my favorite little troublemaker, R2D2, and she wore a lego star wars shirt. one of my favorite parts of sww is seeing what everyone shows up in, from clever t-shirts to full on jedi outfits.

we spent the most time with my main man, chewbacca. he was still in the same spot as last year! i hope they gave that dude a break. he had an ewok pal with him too, and he became a fast friend.

next, we rmet up with some friends who had gone to the big merchandise tent, "darth's mall," because when we showed up they had a three hour wait outside! once i heard that, i frantically called everyone i knew so they could pick me up this year's nametag, which ended up being pretty ugly compared to last year's, but i got it! together we all traipsed over to the streets of america, where we saw jawas, clone wars stormtroopers, and mace windu.

hannah and i broke off from the group because they had already met darth vader. i was adamant about seeing him again after our romance last year, so into the line we went. i feel like we avoided all of the really long lines. i'm pretty sure chewie's wait was the longest, and even that was less than an hour!

hannah really loves amidala, so we found her spot and were surprised to see that there was no wait at all! we walked up as she was leaving, but only waited about ten minutes to see her. honestly, she wasn't very interesting. what was cool about meeting her was that the family behind us in line (the only other family in line at all, to be exact) had the most adorable little girl with them, and our outfits matched! i can't remember her name, but i bet i'll see her next year.

this year's hyperspace hoopla was fantastic, and it ended with JEDI MICKEY! star wars characters and disney characters dressed as star wars characters were never on stage at the same time before this year, so everyone freaked out. i freaked out, 50 year old men freaked out, it was great.

we finished the night in darth's mall, because everyone else disappeared. my friend kaitlyn appeared, and i made her pose against leia's backdrop, since she had already left for the night.

visit tattooine today, for all your shopping needs!

the next time we visited star wars weekends, we just had one goal: meet jedi mickey. we ended up seeing darth goofy too, so we were thrilled! leia minnie and stormtrooper donald were there, but like, donald??? minnie??? hello, the big cheese and my father and law are here!

the last time i went to sww, we dressed up again! hannah went with her friends the weekend before and they all dressed up, and i wanted in on the fun so i made them bring me along for the last weekend. hilariously, i don't have any pictures of any of them. but they looked great, i assure you. and i became really good friends with them, so that's good too!

note: these are not people that i know. total strangers.

and that about raps it up! i hope you enjoyed this massive post!

movin' on up

i'm deep in the mariana trench that is finals week, counting the days until i put all of my crap in my car and head south. i'm stressed out and anxious, being crushed under all of my final exams and projects and really, all i want to do is watch a few more episodes of bones before i go to sleep. i also have no clue as to how i'm going to fit everything i own into one car (especially since i haven't started packing yet, eep). isn't there a charm that arthur weasley puts on the car so all of their trunks fit in it? can he do that to mine??

in happy news, i'm going to a supernatural convention in new jersey on saturday! i'm meeting up with a good friend and we've already made plans to get lunch at mcdonald's so really, what more can i ask for in life? i also recently sold my old nikon d60 and yesterday i received my new baby, the d5100, and i'm obsessed with it. it takes video! i don't understand how i had a dslr that didn't have video, but nevertheless, expect lots of florida montages.

today i have to go to the dentist so he can look at one tooth that has the possibility of becoming a cavity but isn't one yet. i've only had one cavity in my life and i don't plan on getting another one, so as much as i dread having someone else's hands in my mouth, i'm excited to get it over with.

eleven days left!!!! aaaaahhhh!

style inspo #1: no scrubs (1999) - tlc

i'm not going to try to introduce it, because i can't. if space girls kicking ass and publicly shaming dudes who catcall women doesn't make you happy, i don't know what will. the outfits in this video are what i secretly want to embody every day of my life. sexy, futuristic plastics and metals, bright eyeshadow and gemstones on their eyelids. you really cannot go wrong here. also, a big shoutout to the pink version of my all-time favorite diva (leeloo dallas from the fifth element)'s orange suspenders.

school's out

as a new week begins, i am coming off a week of spring break. and what did i do during this break? did i take advantage of a lower drinking age in a different country? finally clean my disgusting and depressing room? actually study for my upcoming anthropology midterm? no, fool! i went to disney world! gosh, it's like you don't even know me.

i worked over 30 hours while i visited but i had plenty of time to play. i got to orlando on the first day of epcot's flower and garden festival, which you probably remember from when my mom visited last year. this year, they added a few new topiaries, including a monsters university entranceway!!! in case y'all didn't know, if i end up going to a real college, it will be MU.

i visited epcot later in the week with a few friends to try the new dole whip with spiced rum. verdict: gross, from everyone. the problem is that the drink all gets stuck in the cave in the middle of your soft serve, so when you finally get down there, it's 80% rum, 20% melted pineapple ice cream. not delicious. then again, i never really "got" the dole whip craze, and this is coming from someone who loves pineapple with all her heart.

also, has anyone else noticed that the flower and garden festival has turned into the food and wine festival part 2? not that i mind extra snacks, but after the majesty of food and wine (looking at you, free ghirardelli chocolate squares and liquid chocolate) it just feels like something is missing, even though the food has actually been added.

after my dad went to work, i descended upon magic kingdom alone. i went straight to fantasyland to check out kingdom crossing, the new tangled-themed rest area which had opened that day. it's cooler than it sounds, i swear.  i don't even like tangled, and i love it.

at some point, i acquired a citrus swirl:

and i attempted to take pictures of the carousel of progress...

...and failed miserably. i need to figure out this shooting-in-the-dark thing. then, i started watching the electrical parade and left right after the beginning because it was surprisingly cold. i drove the ONE HOUR to my dad's house, met up with a friend for chattime, and then fell dead asleep because i had work in the morning!

honestly, that was pretty much my schedule the whole time i was there. on sunday i worked a twelve hour area stock shift, but the rest of them were just little poorly-timed six hours. i did snake a lot of quality time with friends in there, and i rode all my favorite rides and ate all my favorite foods so i have nothing to complain about!

on friday my friend christine bullied me into going into megacon after i had previously decided not to go. initially, i was going to change my saturday flight to sunday so i could go all weekend and dress up and get crazy, but i scrapped it when i realized how much i was trying to fit into one week. but did christine care? nope. and boy am i glad! i met lots of cool folks and bought great art and i even forced people at gunpoint...or with cash/charm...to draw me.

lookin' awesome, drawn by the kind natalie andrewson
a prettier version of me by audrey benjaminsen

alas, the next day was leaving day. i had to drop my rental car (a sweet new ford focus that makes my car look even worse than it does normally) off at the airport at 10 am, but my flight didn't leave until 7:30, so my dad and i headed to universal. unfortunately, so did everyone else! the problem with me visiting during my spring break is that everyone else is visiting during their spring breaks too. the lines were pretty horrible, and we only ended up riding the mummy. but we ate lunch at the three broomsticks and saw beetlejuice and the horror makeup show, so we were pretty satisfied. the fact that i'll be back in less than two months took the pressure off. and hopefully when i come back, the transformers ride will be almost ready to open. we saw optimus prime meeting in front of the NEST building and he was terrifyingly awesome. i'm so excited!

well, that's all folks. see ya real soon! xx, kaylyn
